We repair and rebuild historic timber frames using traditional joinery and period‑appropriate materials. This includes house lifting, sill repair/replacement, and frame stabilization for early historic homes on Nantucket. The goal is always to keep as much original fabric as possible while making the building sound for centuries to come.

We pride ourselves on shop work. Colonial molding reproduction and architectural millwork are paramount in period‑appropriate restoration projects. From simple early colonial casings and stair railings to more elaborate Greek Revival and Victorian profiles, we match the details so new work is indistinguishable from old.”

Original sash maintenance is essential to preserving the character of early homes. We focus on restoring and reglazing windows, sourcing and fitting appropriate hardware, adjusting weights, addressing rot, painting, and winterizing. With added bronze weatherstripping, historic sash can perform as efficiently as many modern window options.”

We use traditional lime‑based mortars and plasters for foundations, chimneys, and interior surfaces so old masonry can breathe and shed moisture. Our work includes repointing stone and brick, rebuilding failing chimney sections, and repairing or renewing lime and horsehair plaster. Using compatible materials helps prevent the damage that hard modern mortars and cements can cause in early historic homes.”
We work alongside homeowners, general contractors, architects, and interior designers to plan period‑appropriate work. Our consulting services include condition assessments, scopes of repair, prioritizing structural and envelope issues, and advising on details, finishes, and layouts so changes respect the character of the house. Insulating is a major concern of ours as many builders here are spray foaming….Please don’t do it! We review plans, walk job sites, and serve as a preservation‑focused voice on the project team.”

Wood finishing is demanding work, and it’s where our eye for detail really shows. Taking new white pine or oak and carefully distressing, antiquing, and staining it to seamlessly match an existing patina is one of our core specialties.

In the event a historic floor needs to be taken up, we catalogue each one so after the flooring is repaired it can go back exactly where it came from. We are also crazy about period appropriate wrought iron nails.
